A character’s present only makes sense once you know what happened before page one. These 50 character backstory prompts dig for the moments that shaped them — the first betrayal, the last good day, the thing they’ve never told anyone. Answer a handful and your character will start writing themselves.
Tip: You don’t need a full biography. Three specific memories — one warm, one shameful, one unresolved — will tell you more about a character than fifty facts.
